Hugo Ironworks near Jedovnice – historical engraving from 1840
Moravian Karst Protected Area

Apartments
at the Sinkhole

Peaceful accommodation in the wilderness between Jedovnice and Rudice. Away from civilisation, with a spacious and safe garden ideal for children.

⚒ Historic site: We are located on the grounds of the former Hugo Ironworks, an iron-smelting works established in the 18th century. Local ironworkers smelted iron ore from nearby mines. To this day, the original stone wall with a millrace remains – a silent witness to the industrial era of the Moravian Karst that permeates the entire atmosphere of the place.

History with Soul

Our apartments are located on the site of the former Hugo or Salm Ironworks, founded in 1746 by Count Antonín Salm for iron ore processing. The original stone wall with its millrace has survived to this day, giving the place an unforgettable atmosphere.

The house itself dates from 1930. It was built for manufacturer Jiří Julínek, owner of the Jedovnice Sawmill (which was established at the beginning of the 20th century on the site of the original ironworks). The house was not a representative villa, but a real home for the manufacturer's family – it also housed the sawmill offices. We are glad to be able to open this beautiful place to further visitors.

Our philosophy: Where history meets family comfort

A story that continues
When Mr Jiří Julínek built this house in 1930 as a home for his family, he gave it a soul that endures to this day. Time passes, but respect for our roots remains. Today, nearly a hundred years later, the fourth generation of his descendants is taking up the baton. With deep respect for family history, we decided to breathe new life into the house and sensitively transform it into a unique apartment property. We have currently completed the first two apartments with love and care. Our goal is not mass tourism, but a desire to share this magical place with people who can appreciate its hidden beauty and tranquillity.

A safe haven for families with children
We know what families truly need when travelling – a moment of rest for the parents and a safe space for discovery for the little ones. Our house is surrounded by extensive, enclosed grounds that create a completely safe environment. You can let children run freely on the grass or play, while you enjoy a coffee on the terrace and have time to yourselves. No rush, no fear of passing cars. Just the pure joy of the present moment.

Experiences that will stay with you
Staying with us is not just about a roof over your head. It is about moments you will be glad to remember:

  • 🌲 Breakfast with the scent of the forest: Start the day in peace on the terrace, while nature awakens around you and the children are already safely exploring the garden.
  • 🌟 Evenings by the fire and a thousand stars: Toast sausages with the children or simply open a bottle of good wine. Because we are in the middle of nowhere, there is no light pollution here. Once the lights go out, a breathtaking night sky opens above you – one you simply cannot see in the city.
  • 💧 A lullaby from the stream: At night, when the daytime bustle fades, the soothing sound of a nearby stream comes alive. It is guaranteed to carry you into a deep, undisturbed sleep.

You will leave us rested, clear-headed and with the feeling that you have found your second home for a while.

Present day and family atmosphere
One half of the house contains your apartments and the other is occasionally home to the granddaughter of Mr Jiří Julínek. If she is present during your stay, she will be happy to offer advice, recommend trips or share more stories from the rich history of this place. The original house is now divided into 2 parts.
